April 18, 2008: POLYSTYRENE FOAM FOOD CONTAINERS

Issue/Problem: Polystyrene foam is one of the least environmentally friendly products produced. This product cannot be easily recycled and does not biodegrade.

Solution: Use biodegradable or recyclable containers.

Policy: Approved containers are made with biodegradable or recyclable materials. No units should be using any Styrofoam/Polystyrene foam containers, unless the client specifically requests their use, and the operation Vice President approves in writing after consultation with the Director of Environmental Programs/Purchasing.
