Policy #501

April 17, 2008: ENERGY STAR RATED FOOD SERVICE EQUIPMENT
(Revised January 26, 2009)

Issue/Problem: Inefficient food service equipment uses large amounts of energy ,which contributes to greenhouse build-up.

Solution: Products that earn the Energy Star rating limit greenhouse gas emissions by meeting energy efficiency guidelines set by the US EPA and the Dept. of Energy.

Policy: The company will only purchase Energy Star rated electric and natural gas equipment, if available.

Comments: When alternate pieces of equipment are Energy Star rated, and differ in price, the Purchasing Department will analyze which has the lowest environmental impact over the equipment’s useful life, and purchase that item.

Please refer to EnergyStar.gov web site, or contact the Purchasing Department at (703) 849-9399 for help choosing the most efficient food service equipment.
