Guest Services, Inc. and Subsidiaries 2010 Sustainability Report (February 17, 2011) -- Guest Services’ sustainability program is called “ourPlanet” because one of the primary goals is to educate employees to think about their actions at work as directly affecting their whole environment, both at work, and outside of work. While most at-work initiatives seek to have employees think about how their actions affect our customers or our Company, the “ourPlanet” program seeks to go beyond that to have employees realize their actions at work (whether in conserving energy, reducing food waste and other resource use, or recycling) can affect every aspect of their lives and their families’ lives.

equestrian waste management project

Equine Waste Management Project at Rock Creek Park Horse Center --
Since 1999, Guest Services has operated the Rock Creek Park Horse Center for the National Park Service. For decades, there had been an open manure storage area at the Horse Center; an earlier containment structure had deteriorated and collapsed prior to Guest Services' involvement at this location. Straw, wood chips, manure and other equine by-products were periodically removed from the horse stalls and piled on an open, partially-protected asphalt pad, and the runoff from the Waste would leach into the soil and ground water. Rock Creek itself, a tributary of the Potomac River, is only a few hundred yards away, and was subject to contamination by run-off from the exposed waste pile. In addition to the contamination issue, the pile was aesthetically and aromatically unpleasant.

Clean Beach Crew

No BP Oil on Naples Beaches, but still need to keep them clean. Guest Services Inc., Hospitality Employees Spend Saturday Morning Cleaning Barefoot Beach. --
NAPLES, FL —“These are the beaches that keep us all employed. Although the BP oil has not reached Naples’ shoreline, we need to keep them clean so that tourists will continue to come here,” Barry Trice, VP of Hotel Operations for Guest Services, Inc. reminded hotel staff members. Armed with trash bags, pick-up sticks and gloves, the group gathered at Collier County’s Barefoot Beach Pavilion early one Saturday morning for a waste-free breakfast and pep talk before walking the beach and trails to remove debris that beach-goers leave behind.

ROB Trash Separation

GSI Kicks Off Trash Separation Process at GSA Regional Office Building (ROB) --
In conjunction with Earth Day 2010, Guest Services unveiled a new trash separation process at ROB ’s NRC Café. Much of the trash from the café that had gone straight to a landfill now is being composted or recycled. read more
